Cheri Hunter
Chair

Cheri is originally from Canada but has lived in the St Albans area for many years.  She has had a career working in both the NHS and in various academic roles at University in Health and Medical Education.   Cheri has worked with a number of voluntary groups including Herts Youth Homeless, Parkinson’s Patients Dancing  Group and eight years as  Chair of a St Albans  school governing body.  Since joining the group a year ago she has channelled her enthusiasm to support the members, organise a varied programme for meetings, recruit new members and develop links with other community organisations.

Geoff Young

Member representative

Geoff is our member representative on the Committee. Geoff had a technical career in aerospace and on his retirement received formal training in acoustics and noise control. He has worked with a number of churches to improve the acoustics of their buildings and sound systems, including hearing loops. He enjoys woodturning in his spare time. He was diagnosed with dry AMD in one eye and wet in the other one, for which he is receiving treatment and joined our group.

Jenny Vestal

Senior Advisor

Jenny’s career in Pharmacy and medicines development and regulation across Europe and the USA included working on novel treatments for rare diseases, various forms of cancer and malaria. While still providing consultancy to companies developing novel treatments, Jenny now undertakes as much voluntary service as she can with local organisations, including acting as Secretary and Trustee of the Harpenden Lions Club CIO.

Any spare time is taken up with 3 young grandchildren, trying to keep the garden under control and acting as Company Secretary and Director of her local neighbourhood Management Company, while fostering community spirit among the residents.

Barbara Jeffrey

Secretary

Barbara has a varied history of voluntary work including helping others, especially the visually impaired, feel comfortable using computers. She has AMD and has enrolled in a panel of potential research subjects for a programme developing new and improved treatments.

Teresa

Treasurer
Teresa, originally from Ireland , has lived in St Albans for 40 years. She worked primarily in the Drinks Industry in various accounts roles up until retirement in 2018. She joined the Macular Group as Treasurer in 2022

Billy Liu

Technology Consultant

Billy works closely with the committee as a technology consultant, supporting the St Albans Macular Group in using digital tools to better connect, inform, and support its members. His role includes overseeing the development of the website as a central information hub, as well as advising on accessible communication, newsletters, and the use of technology to enhance member engagement.

Alongside this, Billy is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire. He has a strong interest in how innovative technologies can improve accessibility and learning, and brings this experience to help the group create more inclusive and user-friendly digital services.
