Cheri Hunter

Cheri is originally from Canada but has lived in the St Albans area for many years.  She has had a career working in both the NHS and in various academic roles at University in Health and Medical Education.   Cheri has worked with a number of voluntary groups including Herts Youth Homeless, Parkinson’s Patients Dancing  Group and eight years as  Chair of a St Albans  school governing body.  Since joining the group a year ago she has channelled her enthusiasm to support the members, organise a varied programme for meetings, recruit new members and develop links with other community organisations.

Geoff Young

Member representative

Geoff is our member representative on the Committee. Geoff had a technical career in aerospace and on his retirement received formal training in acoustics and noise control. He has worked with a number of churches to improve the acoustics of their buildings and sound systems, including hearing loops. He enjoys woodturning in his spare time. He was diagnosed with dry AMD in one eye and wet in the other one, for which he is receiving treatment and joined our group.

Barbara Jeffrey


Barbara has a varied history of voluntary work including helping others, especially the visually impaired, feel comfortable using computers. She has AMD and has enrolled in a panel of potential research subjects for a programme developing new and improved treatments.


Transport Coordinator

Tricia’s  role is to arrange transport for  Group members  who are unable to get themselves to and from our meetings.

Along with her husband Tony, who is a driver for the group, she has been  involved with the Macular Group for more than ten years.   Tricia has worked  on the committee during this time doing various jobs to help.   She enjoys the contact with the members, chatting and getting to know them and is always available to help where possible.

Prior to retirement nearly twenty years ago, Tricia had a long career as a librarian, working in various posts for the County Library Services in Middlesex, Kent and Hertfordshire – a very happy working life.


Teresa, originally from Ireland , has lived in St Albans for 40 years. She worked primarily in the Drinks Industry in various accounts roles up until retirement in 2018. She joined the Macular Group as Treasurer in 2022

Billy Liu

Web design

Billy’s role is to work with the committee members to develop and maintain the St Albans Macular Group website as an information hub.

Apart from being a website designer for the group, Billy is a senior lecturer who works for the University of Hertfordshire. He is passionate about using innovative technologies to enhance teaching and learning in higher education.
